US lawmakers are currently deliberating a potential ban on the Chinese artificial intelligence platform DeepSeek's chatbot application from government devices, fueled by escalating concerns regarding data privacy and security. Ivan Tsarynny, CEO of Feroot Security, has provided alarming insights into the app's operations, highlighting its ability to transmit user information, including sensitive login details, to servers associated with China Mobile, a company linked to the Chinese government.
"This is something we've never seen before," Tsarynny emphasized, warning that users logging into DeepSeek may be subjected to digital fingerprinting. He explained that the app not only collects personal data but also connects it to individual queries, creating a highly personalized tracking system. This unprecedented level of data collection raises significant national security alarms.
Tsarynny pointed out that the implications extend beyond personal privacy risks, suggesting that sensitive information could potentially be exploited for broader national security threats. As discussions continue, the urgency for protective measures against such technology intensifies.
