In fall 2025, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) will unveil its first new academic department in nearly three decades, named Computation, Technology, and Culture (CTC). This innovative department aims to explore the intersection of digital technology and artistic practice, providing students with a robust framework to engage with contemporary issues in design and art.
The CTC department will offer a curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, encouraging students to investigate how technology influences culture and vice versa. By integrating computational methods into the creative process, RISD seeks to prepare students for the rapidly evolving landscape of design and technology.
This initiative reflects RISD's commitment to staying at the forefront of art and design education. The establishment of the CTC department not only enhances the institution's academic offerings but also positions it as a leader in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging technologies in the creative field.
