FAIRHOPE, Ala. -- The usual roles were flipped this week as teachers from across Alabama took their own seats in the classroom. They were the students this time, learning new lessons at the Gulf Regional Innovative Teaching Conference hosted by Baldwin County Public Schools.
The event focused on blending modern technology with traditional teaching methods. Educators attended workshops on using digital tools, interactive software, and artificial intelligence to engage students in fresh ways. Sessions covered topics like coding in elementary grades, virtual reality for history lessons, and data-driven strategies to track student progress.
Organizers said the goal was to give teachers practical skills they could use immediately in their classrooms. One instructor from Mobile County mentioned she planned to try a new app for collaborative projects after seeing a demo. Another teacher from Baldwin County said the conference helped her rethink how to manage group work using online platforms.
The conference also featured keynote speakers who discussed the future of education in a tech-driven world. Attendees shared ideas during breakout sessions and networked with peers facing similar challenges. Many left with lesson plans already adapted for their grade levels.
Baldwin County officials noted that such training is essential as schools continue to integrate more devices and software into daily instruction. The conference will return next year with an expanded lineup of workshops. For now, teachers are heading back to their own classrooms, ready to put their new knowledge to work.
